16 things you experience after sudden loss

DISCLAIMER: I know loss is hard for everyone, regardless of whether or not it was sudden, therefore some of these may seem insensitive. This is from my perspective as someone who has dealt with sudden loss. Please view the entire list before you make any judgements.

1) When someone says they can relate because they lost their grandparent at 85 after a long struggle with (insert illness here)

2) when someone asks you how you are and you’re trying to decide whether or not to tell the truth

3) when you run into someone for the first time since your loss and they ask how life is

4) when they give you that “time heals all wounds” nonsense

5) when you forget for a second that they’re gone and then it hits you all over again

6) and then you have a mini break down

7) when someone starts to tell a story of someone they lost and how they can relate before you're done sharing stories of your loved one

8)  when you spend hours trying to piece together what happened and if theres something you could have done differently (hint: there isnt)

9) when someone starts to say something that could tarnish the way you remember things about your loved one

10) when you read stories of other people losing loved ones in similar situations

11) when you meet someone that shares your grief

12)  when someone goes out of there way to try to relate to you even though they cant

13) when you realize time is starting to heal your wounds

14) but you dont know how to feel about it

15) when you realize everyone was only trying to be nice and you may have slightly overreacted but they love you anyways and just want to help so you let them

16) when you realize even though you’re sad and you miss them, your loved one will always be with you.
